Jason Poirier, 37, was sentenced today to 5 years in prison followed by 10 years of sex offender probation for one count each of Transmission of Child Pornography and Possession of Child Pornography. He must also register as a sexual offender. The defendant previously pled open to the court. Defendants can elect to have a judge sentence them without having a jury trial.
The case started as a tip from Twitter that child pornography was being posted on their platform. The case was investigated by Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Detective and FBI Child Exploitation Task Force Member Donald Woelke. It was discovered that the defendant was sharing files containing child pornography electronically. The investigation ultimately resulted in Poirier’s arrest in August of 2017.
In addition to his prison sentence and the terms of sex offender probation, he must also forfeit all the electronics that were seized and have no contact with any minors.
