The Cold Case Homicide Unit was formed by State Attorney Amira Fox when she took office as the State Attorney of the 20th Judicial Circuit in January 2019.
The Cold Case Homicide Unit reviews cold cases and works to develop new leads to help bring resolution for those impacted by these crimes. This unit is comprised of experienced homicide prosecutors and investigators with decades of experience in law enforcement and prosecution. This unique team was specifically chosen by State Attorney Fox to help solve cold cases throughout Southwest Florida.
The Cold Case Homicide Unit was made possible by our local legislative delegation and our Governor Ron DeSantis, who provided the funding for the specialized division.
On November 18, 2014, T.J. Maxx store manager Alfred Griffiths took a smoke break on a bench outside of the Del Prado Boulevard store. He would never return to his job. Just before 9 P.M. he was fatally gunned down, with the shooter immediately fleeing the scene. A suspect composite is seen below.

This is a Lee County homicide case.
On February 5, 2015, at 3:15 AM, deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Tice Fire Department responded to a trailer fire located at 4606 Glenwood Avenue, in the Tice section of Fort Myers. The fire was reported by Peter Matthew Albritton, who resided in the trailer with Donna Chatterton. Albritton indicated that Chatterton was not in the trailer when he returned home earlier in the evening and that he fell asleep. Albritton claimed that he was alerted to the fire by his barking dog, fled from the burning trailer and could not confirm if Chatterton was in the trailer when the fire occurred. On the 6th of February, deputies responded to the residence of Donna Chatterton’s mother who filed a missing person’s report for her daughter. Deputies completed a preliminary report and entered Chatterton as a missing person. Chatterton remains missing and it is suspected that Chatterton met with foul play prior to the fire.
This is a Lee County homicide case.
On March 8, 1992, at 10:48 AM, the body of Carole F. Clement was discovered in her Holly Greens Villa condominium located at 3070 Gulf Shore Boulevard North, in the Moorings section of Naples, Florida. Her death was caused by multiple stab wounds and ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Carole Clement was separated from her husband for a long period of time and involved in a bitter divorce when she met her demise.
This is a Collier County homicide case.
On November 5, 2017, at approximately 1:47 AM, a report of multiple gunshots led Naples Police Department to respond to the parking lot of 570 11th Street North, near Goodlette-Frank Road North, Naples. Victim Franklin Francois was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Francois succumbed to his wounds after being transported to the hospital. Shell casings were recovered near the scene at the 1100 Block of 6th Avenue North, Naples.
This is a Collier County homicide case.
On October 16, 2016, at about 6:00 p.m., the Fort Myers Police Department was dispatched to the Cypress Court Apartments, located on Seminole Avenue, in the City of Fort Myers in reference to multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, it was determined that Geraldo Olvera, 22 years of age had been shot and killed by unknown suspect(s). Olvera lived in Cypress Court Apartments with his mother. A Blue compact vehicle was seen fleeing the scene and believed to be involved in Olvera’s homicide.
This is a Lee County homicide case.
On August 31, 1999, at approximately 9:19 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 504 Center Road, Fort Myers, an industrial park located near Page Field, in reference to a 9-1-1 call of a deceased male. The deceased male was found in his business and was identified as David Haire. The investigation revealed Haire died from multiple stab wounds and his death was determined to be a homicide.
This is a Lee County homicide case.
Joseph Warren Godcharles was found dead in his Key Royal Circle condo, within a gated community east of Interstate 75 on August 1, 2012.
His adult son, Ryan found the condo unsecured and Godcharles stabbed to death in the master bedroom.
Detectives believe Godcharles was killed sometime between 8:24 p.m. on September 30 and 9:16 a.m. on August 1, 2012.
Detectives did not find any evidence of burglary.
Godcharles was a manager of a Walgreens in Immokalee at the time of his death. Godcharles had numerous friends and family in the Naples area.
He enjoyed boating and trips to Key West. Detectives believe he knew his killer.
