Defendant Sentenced for Crimes Against a Minor

Today Javarious Devon Pointer, 27, was sentenced to 18 years in prison followed 12 years of sex offender probation for crimes against a minor. He was adjudicated guilty of one count each of Sexual Battery While Victim Helpless and Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child. He was also designated a Sexual Predator for life.

On Christmas Day in 2018, Pointer had sex with a teenager who later overdosed on drugs at a residence in Lee County. The evidence shows the victim died of acute toxicity of cocaine and Fentanyl. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime.

The individual accused of selling the victim the drugs, Fred Shackleford, is awaiting trial.

Assistant State Attorney Francine Donnorummo, Special Victims Unit Chief, and Assistant State Attorney Heather Fly prosecuted the case.
