Corey Beckers, 29, of Fort Myers, was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation, for Trafficking in Cocaine (200 grams or more) and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
On December 26, 2020, the day after Christmas, the defendant was involved in a shooting with another vehicle off of Daniels Parkway in Lee County. The defendant then crashed on the side of the road, with many bullet holes throughout his car.
Immediately after he crashed, he ran to a nearby restaurant. He went in the bathroom and hid one kilo of cocaine in a trash can. He ran through some brush to get to the restaurant and had briars on him. Some of the briars fell off his clothing in the bathroom.
The defendant then ran back to his car and got a firearm out of the vehicle, which was witnessed by a firefighter. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office also had arrived on scene and took Becker into custody. Deputies found the cocaine in the bathroom and the briars on the defendant’s clothing matched the ones there. The bag filled with cocaine was sent for testing to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The defendant’s DNA was also found on the bag.
Assistant State Attorney Olivia Ferrell prosecuted the case.
