Jeyber Leonel Monje Mejia, 40, of Naples, was found guilty as charged of one count of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation by a Person 18 Years of Age or Older, Victim 12 Years
of Age or Older, Less Than 16. The jury returned the guilty verdict this afternoon following a three-day trial in Collier County.
On June 26, 2019, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about a report of a suspicious sexual incident involving a juvenile. A child had shown an adult some messages on their phone from the defendant. The messages were telling the child he was attracted to her and asking for photos. The child then disclosed to the adult that the defendant had molested her in the past.
The investigation by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office led to the identification of the defendant and a warrant for his arrest.
The defendant was arrested on August 4, 2019, at RSW Airport in Fort Myers, by the Lee County Port Authority Police Department, when he arrived on a flight back to Florida, after working out of state.
Assistant State Attorney Stowe Heiderscheit and Assistant State Attorney Sarah Woodward prosecuted the case. Sentencing is scheduled for June 29th.
