Ariel Brionne Battles, 26, of Fort Myers, was convicted of Conspiracy to Engage in Pattern of Racketeering Activity, Conspiracy to Commit Organized Fraud, and Theft, following a three-day trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney J.D. Miller, Economic Crime Unit Chief, and Assistant State Attorney John Humphreville prosecuted the cases.
Battles was found guilty of cashing checks she knew to be fraudulent, while she worked at a credit union, as a bank teller. She would be alerted that fraudulent checks would be presented and would push them through the computer system by entering some elements manually.
She would then get a portion of the check for assisting in the crime and deposited that money in her personal account. The crimes happened between October 12, 2022, and January 30, 2023. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 27, 2025.
One co-defendant has a pending case.
