Lee County Grand Jury Returns Indictments in Death of a Child

The Lee County Grand Jury, convened by State Attorney Amira Fox, indicted Qwentosha Massaquoi and Louis Moinina Massaquoi on the following charges involving the death of a child:

 

I. II. III. First Degree Murder – Capital FelonyAggravated Child Abuse – Capital FelonyFailure to Report Suspected Child Abuse, Abandonment, or Neglect – Third Degree Felony

“The facts of this case are extremely disturbing. I appreciate the Lee County Grand Jury’s attention to the evidence presented. These indictments are another step toward justice for the child victim who endured a life of extreme and shocking neglect,” said State Attorney Amira Fox.

The indictment reads in part for Count I, First Degree Murder, that between September 1, 2024 and January 27, 2025 in Lee County, Florida, did unlawfully, from a premeditated design to effect the death of a human being, or while engaged in the perpetration of, or in the attempt to perpetrate an aggravated child abuse, kill and murder the victim, a human being, contrary to Florida Statute 782.04(1);777.011.

For Count II, Aggravated Child Abuse – Torture, on one or more occasions between September 1, 2024 and January 27, 2025 in Lee County, Florida, did unlawfully commit child abuse by intentionally inflicting physical or mental injury upon a child under 18 years of age, to wit:the victim, or by committing an intentional act that could reasonably be expected to result in physical or mental injury to said child, or by actively encouraging any person to commit an act that results or could reasonably be expected to result in physical or mental injury to said child, and during the commission of the child abuse did cause great bodily harm or permanent disfigurement to the victim, or did willfully torture or maliciously punish the victim, contrary to Florida Statute 827.03(2);777.011.

For Count III, the indictment reads that on one or more occasions between September 1, 2024 and January 27, 2025 in Lee County, Florida, did knowingly and willfully fail to report to the central abuse hotline known or suspected child abuse, abandonment, or neglect, or knowingly and willfully prevent another person from doing so, contrary to Florida Statute 39.205(1).

“The Lee County Sheriff’s Office did an extensive and detailed investigation into this case. It is with the evidence they collected that the presentment to the Lee County Grand Jury and the resulting indictments were possible today,” said State Attorney Fox.
