Fentanyl trafficker, George Samuel Broughton, arrested during a NETFORCE operation, was sentenced this morning to 30 years in prison for one count of Conspiracy to Traffic in Fentanyl – 28 Grams or More.
Florida law requires that the defendant will serve, at a minimum, 25 years in prison and is not eligible for any early release until 25 years is served. He was found guilty at trial in September, in Lee County. He was also ordered to pay a $500,000 fine, pay court costs and prosecution costs.
This sentence is to run concurrently with the sentence previously imposed by the court for one count of Conspiracy to Traffic in Cocaine – 400 grams or more. He was convicted on the charge in August, following a trial in Lee County.
These sentences are a result of the first NETFORCE investigation, Operation Block Party, in 2020. Broughton was identified almost immediately during the investigation as a drug trafficker.
Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney John W. Dommerich, Jr. and Assistant State Attorney Natalie Savino, Hendry/Glades County Circuit Court Chief, prosecuted the cases.
NETFORCE was formed by State Attorney Amira Fox in conjunction with law enforcement agency partners to coordinate a circuit-wide approach to infiltrating and dismantling drug trafficking organizations, organized crime, racketeering, and money-laundering enterprises in Southwest Florida.
