Notice of Intent to Seek Death

State Attorney Amira Fox announces that today, the State Attorney’s Office has filed a Notice of Intent to Seek Death for Qwentosha Massaquoi and Louis Moinina Massaquoi for the murder of their child.

The couple was indicted in September by the Lee County Grand Jury for:

Count I: First Degree Murder – Capital Felony

Count II: Aggravated Child Abuse – Capital Felony

Count III: Failure to Report Suspected Child Abuse, Abandonment, and Neglect – Third Degree Felony

The case involves the death of the couple’s 12-year-old son. The crimes outlined in the indictment read in part that between September 1, 2024, and January 27, 2025, in Lee County, the defendants, while engaged in the perpetration of, or in the attempt to perpetrate an aggravated child abuse, killed the victim.

The indictment also reads that they knowingly and willfully failed to report the known or suspected child abuse, abandonment, or neglect, or knowingly and willfully prevented another person from doing so.

This case involved a very extensive investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“The details in this case are extremely unsettling. The facts in this case support the aggravating factors necessary to seek death. The alleged crimes were heinous, atrocious, and cruel to a child who had no way of defending themselves or escaping and they were committed by people who stood in a position of custodial or familial authority over the child,” said State Attorney Amira Fox.
