Carlos Alonso Ramirez was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 120 months in prison, followed by 24 months of probation, for Shooting from a Vehicle within 1,000 ft. of a Person and Aggravated Battery.
Assistant State Attorney Olivia Ferrell and Assistant Circuit Court Chief Erin Hughes prosecuted the case.
On Saturday, June 25, 2022, at around 2:30 a.m., the defendant got into an altercation outside of a Fort Myers convenience store. It became a shoving match in the parking lot. A friend of the defendant displayed a gun and then the defendant also pulled out a gun, and fired it into the air. They then got into a car and left with another friend.
Seconds after leaving the parking lot, the car was stopped at the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard. The defendant, who was in the front passenger seat of the car, raised his gun and shot a man he didn’t know, who was standing near a taco truck to get food, then the car took off.
The Fort Myers Police Department responded to the shooting and after an extensive investigation, they were able to identify the shooter and the defendant was arrested.
