Andrew Brantley Perkins was sentenced to 40 years in prison for Second-Degree Murder, 25 years of which must be served as a minimum/mandatory sentence and 30 years in prison for Attempted Second Degree Murder, 20 years of which must be served as a minimum/mandatory sentence, all of which is then followed by lifetime probation.
Assistant State Attorney Hamid Hunter, in support with the victim and next of kin, requested that the court punish the defendant with the maximum sentence of life in prison. That request was denied by the Honorable Judge Andrew Marcus.
The defendant was convicted at trial in October 2025. The trial jury rejected the defendant’s Stand Your Ground claim.
The crime happened on April 28, 2024, in Lee County. The defendant got into an argument, at the end of his driveway, with a local man, who had pulled over in a pick-up truck. As the man, along with a passenger, drove away, the defendant shot at them multiple times with a high-powered semi-automatic rifle, killing the driver. The passenger escaped with minor injuries.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
