Anastasiya Zadorozhna will be sentenced on September 28, 2026, on her conviction of Vehicular Homicide. The defendant was street racing when she crashed into another car, killing a 52-year-old man.
Assistant State Attorneys Martin Stark and Andreas Gardiner, of the Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case. The jury returned the guilty verdict following a Lee County trial.
The crash happened on Jul 19, 2024, in Cape Coral, on Pine Island Road. Evidence introduced at trial was video from a camera on Nicholas Parkway and Pine Island Road that showed two cars traveling at a high speed, racing each other. A short distance away, the defendant’s car collided into the victim’s car.
Co-defendant Chase Magruder, who had been racing the defendant, hit her car, when the defendant drove into his lane, during the crash. Magruder pled straight to the court on his charge of Vehicular Homicide. This was not a plea agreement but the defendant’s right to plea straight to the judge for sentencing. He was sentenced on Wednesday.
