Today the State Attorney’s Office filed two charges against defendant Yanko Romero, for a case involving an attack on an inmate, at the Lee County Correction Core Facility on June 10, 2025.
Romero has been charged with one count of Aggravated Battery by Person Detained Upon Other Detainee, a First Degree Felony, and one count of Resisting/Obstructing an Officer without Violence, a First Degree Misdemeanor.
The defendant, incarcerated due to a pending unrelated murder case, is accused of beating another inmate, who had been sleeping.
Chief Assistant State Attorney Richard Montecalvo and Assistant State Attorney Sara Miller, of the Homicide Unit, are prosecuting the case.
