Today a former cold case involving a murder and a drug trafficking case were resolved, with the defendant being sentenced to prison, following the work of the State Attorney’s Office Cold Case Homicide Unit and the Narcotics Enforcement Task Force (NETFORCE).
Rodney Terrell Davis was sentenced to 40 years in prison for Second Degree Murder with a Firearm for a 2004 Fort Myers murder and 15 years in prison for Conspiracy to Traffic Phenethylamines 10 grams or more, Conspiracy to Traffic Phenethylamines 400 grams or more, and Trafficking Phenethylamines 400 grams or more.
The defendant was arrested in 2022 as the result of a NETFORCE task force investigation. He had been caught arranging narcotics trafficking deals from the Lee County Jail, where he was being held on other charges. As a result of the NETFORCE investigation, Davis was charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, and one count of trafficking phenethylamines. Assistant State Attorney Kate Rumley, Chief of Narcotics, prosecuted the case.
During the investigation, the defendant agreed to provide law enforcement with information about his involvement with a homicide that occurred on June 12, 2004. In that case, a man was shot to death, on Royal Palm Avenue in Fort Myers. The case was investigated by the Fort Myers Police Department.
Recently, Davis gave a statement to law enforcement, admitting to being the shooter who killed the victim. Cold Case Homicide Unit Chief and State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit Assistant State Attorney Dan Feinberg prosecuted the case. Due to the cold case homicide being able to be closed, the defendant pled to the drug charges and was sentenced on both cases.
Today’s sentence will run concurrent with the sentence Davis is currently serving for a 2019 crime.
NETFORCE was formed by State Attorney Amira Fox in conjunction with partner law enforcement agencies. The focus is to coordinate a Circuit-wide approach to infiltrating and dismantling drug trafficking organizations, organized crime, racketeering, and money-laundering enterprises in Southwest Florida.
