David Mann was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by 3 years of probation, for Resisting an Officer without Violence and Possession of a Firearm or Ammo by a Convicted Felon. He was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender.
Assistant State Attorney Steven Vitale prosecuted the case.
The crime happened on December 22, 2024. Fort Myers Police Officers responded to an alert of shots fired on Central Avenue. Officers saw the defendant walking away, looking over his shoulder, grabbing near his waistband. He then removed a black object and discarded it under a vehicle.
When officers instructed the defendant to stop, he took off running. He was detained after a foot chase. Officers then located the firearm he had tried to hide under the vehicle.
