Zenaido Martinez-Gomez was convicted of Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Damage to an Unattended Vehicle or Unattended Property. The jury returned the guilty verdict today following a three-day trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano, of the Traffic Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrested the defendant in July 2023. The defendant had been driving his Jeep Gladiator in Lehigh Acres. He hit a man on a bicycle near the intersection of Douglas Lane and Ichabod Avenue and then hit a mailbox. Instead of stopping and rendering aid to the victim, the defendant fled the scene. The victim died from his injuries.
The defendant’s vehicle was located at his home in Lehigh Acres and he was arrested soon after.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 17, 2025.
