Jamaine Alexander Washington was found guilty as charged of Vehicular Homicide, Driving While License Suspended, and Perjury When Not in an Official Proceeding. The jury returned the verdict just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night, following a two-day trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney Martin Stark, of the State Attorney’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case.
The crime happened in February 2024, on the Caloosahatchee Bridge in Fort Myers. The defendant was speeding in a car and rear-ended a man on a motorcycle. The victim died. The defendant claimed he was not driving the car.
The Fort Myers Police Department investigated the case which led to the identification of the defendant as the driver.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 5, 2026. The State has filed a notice to have the defendant sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender, which would increase the potential maximum penalty at sentencing.
