Defendant Sentenced in Crash Case

Today, Clody Enrique Gonzalez Vera, 22, of Cape Coral, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by 15 years of probation, for Leaving
the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death. He was also sentenced to 60 months in prison for Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence.

The sentences are to run concurrently. A jury returned the guilty verdict in January, following a trial in Lee County.

The crash happened on the Cape Coral Bridge, in February of 2020, killing a 21-year-old man who had been riding a scooter. The defendant fled the scene after the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol handled the investigation.

Homicide Unit Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano and Assistant State Attorney Mikala Makar prosecuted the case.
