Stephen Francis Murphy, a former nurse from Cape Coral, was convicted of Trafficking in Morphine and Trafficking in Oxycodone, following a jury trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney Stephen Hawley and Assistant State Attorney Christine Cummins prosecuted the case.
In 2024, during a search warrant being executed at the defendant’s residence in Cape Coral, trafficking amounts of drugs were found. The defendant had possession of 51 grams of morphine and 66 grams of liquid oxycodone that he took from a hospice center, his previous place of employment. The drugs were found in his bedroom.
Homeland Security Investigations, State Attorney’s Office Investigators, and the Cape Coral Police Department were involved in the investigation.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 15, 2026.
