State Attorney Amira Fox convened the Lee County Grand Jury and they have returned an indictment against Devin Bryant Johnson for the following: First Degree Murder – Capital Felony, Aggravated Abuse of an Elderly Person or Disabled Adult – First Degree Felony, Flee Elude LEO with Lights & Sirens – Third Degree Felony, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked – Second Degree Misdemeanor.
The defendant is accused of murdering his mother in her Cape Coral home.
The indictment reads in part that on or about September 16, 2025, in Lee County, the defendant did unlawfully, from a premeditated design to effect the death of a human being, or while engaged in the perpetration of, or in the attempt to perpetrate an aggravated abuse of an elderly person or disable adult, kill and murder the victim by committing homicidal violence upon her including compressing her neck or strangling her, inflicting blunt injuries, and inflicting sharp force injuries using a weapon, to-wit: a knife
After the murder, the defendant fled to Collier County and attempted to outrun Collier County Sheriff’s Deputies who deployed stop sticks to get his vehicle to stop. He crashed and ran, then fought with deputies and a police dog as he was being apprehended.
“I want to thank the Cape Coral Police Department for their hard work on this case. I also want to thank the Collier County Sheriff’s Office for stopping the defendant and apprehending him,” said State Attorney Fox.
“I also want to thank the Lee County Grand Jury for their attention to the details of this case. I hope this indictment helps the family and friends of the victim find some peace,” said State Attorney Fox.
