Jonathan Israel Colon, 30, of Fort Lauderdale, was found guilty as charged of Familial or Custodial Sexual Battery, Lewd or Lascivious Conduct, and Sexual Battery – Child Less than 12 Years of Age. The jury returned the guilty verdict following a three-day trial in Fort Myers.
In May 2020, the child victim told her mother about a sexual battery that had previously been perpetrated by the defendant. The next day, on her own, the child called the defendant through the
social media app SnapChat, and recorded the conversation, during which, he admitted he had sexually abused her.
That evidence was turned over to the Cape Coral Police Department, who started an investigation. It was determined that Colon committed sexual crimes against the child, over a period of time, in Cape Coral.
Assistant State Attorney Erin Hughes and Assistant State Attorney Tyler Lovejoy, Lee County Felony Division Chief, prosecuted the case. Sentencing is scheduled for September 30, 2002.
