Terry Smith was found guilty Thursday, of Robbery with a Firearm. The jury also found the defendant carried and actually possessed the firearm. Due to that finding, count two of this case,
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, was presented. The jury deliberated on the second count and again found the defendant guilty.
Assistant State Attorney Scott Patterson and Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Garczewski, Charlotte County Circuit Court Chief, prosecuted the case.
The case involves a robbery that occurred on November 29, 2014. The defendant came up to a man driving a propane truck as he stopped to make a delivery at a gas station in Port Charlotte.
Smith was carrying a gun and demanded the driver give him cash. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and a warrant was issued for the defendant’s arrest. He was located and arrested in 2019 for the crime.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 6, 2023.
