Jeremy Brian Brumbaugh, of Lehigh Acres, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to the maximum sentence of life in prison for four counts of Sexual Battery on a Child Under 12 Years of Age, capital felonies, two counts of Lewd Molestation on a Child Under 12 Years of Age, life felonies, and one count of Sexual Activity with an Animal, a third-degree felony. The defendant was also designated as a Sexual Predator.
Special Victims Unit Chief Assistant State Attorney Francine Donnorummo and Assistant State Attorney Adam Sullivan prosecuted the case.
The defendant was arrested following an extensive investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The crimes happened on several occasions in 2023, in Lee County.
Law enforcement legally seized both phones belonging to the defendant and obtained a search warrant permitting them to review the contents. Evidence of sexual crimes involving the child victim, and sexual crime involving the family dog, were found on the phones.
A Lee County Grand Jury, convened by State Attorney Amira Fox, indicted the defendant on March 5, 2024. The defendant pled as charged to the sentence.
“This sentence means the defendant will remain behind bars, where he belongs, for the rest of his life. This case had evidence of atrocious acts and he does not deserve to ever again be free, which is why we sought the maximum sentence. In October of 2023, the law in the State of Florida changed to allow the imposition of the death penalty for capital sexual battery. However, the crimes in this case were committed prior to the law change,” said State Attorney Fox.
“FDLE’s investigation laid the groundwork for this outcome in court,” said FDLE Fort Myers Special Agent in Charge Eli Lawson. “Showing zero tolerance for child sex crimes is how we continue to protect Florida’s children. I am proud of the perseverance our team showed in bringing this case to a close. We will continue working with all our law enforcement partners to protect our children from this evil.”
