Life in Prison for Murder

Santiago Burbano has been adjudicated guilty and sentenced to life in prison, for Second Degree Murder, for the murder of a Collier County woman. He stabbed the woman more than 80 times with a tactical knife.

The defendant did an open plea to the court. Every defendant can choose to give up their right to a jury trial and plea straight to the court for sentencing by the Judge. This is not a plea agreement.

Assistant State Attorneys James Stewart and Sara Woodward prosecuted the case.

The crime happened on September 13, 2018. The victim visited Burbano at his East Naples apartment and while there, he attacked her with a knife and killed her in his bedroom. The defendant then texted a couple acquaintances and told them he had killed someone. He then left the bedroom and disclosed to his mother what had occurred, and she called 911.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded and arrested the defendant.
