Life in Prison for Murder

Today Kyle Patrick Orr, 32, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a woman in Cape
Coral in 2019. Orr pled no contest straight to the court on March 10, giving up his right to a trial.
Every defendant can plead directly to the court for sentencing. Prosecutors argued for a life
sentence for Orr and received it. The defendant was adjudicated guilty and sentenced for one
count of Second Degree Murder by the Honorable Judge Frank Porter.

On Father’s Day, June 16, 2019, Cape Coral Police responded to an apartment in the Southwest
Cape after a 911 call was received. A female could be heard screaming and a male voice said,
“stop.” Police quickly arrived on scene and heard two screams from a woman inside the
apartment. Officers made entry and rendered aid to the victim. She had been stabbed 16 times
and died minutes later.

A person near the apartment flagged down police and told them they saw a man running with a
knife. Officers followed a trail of blood and found the defendant hiding in bushes behind the
apartment complex. He was bleeding due to defensive wounds from the victim. Orr immediately
asked if the victim was still alive. The victim met Orr on a dating app and had been dating him
previously for a short time and ended their relationship.

Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner of our Homicide Unit and Assistant State Attorney
Natalie Savino handled the case.
