This morning defendant Amanda Cook was sentenced to life in prison for Second Degree Murder. She was convicted in December of murdering her roommate in North Naples. When the sentence was announced this morning, the defendant began yelling and had to be removed from the courtroom.
Assistant State Attorney Sabsina Karimi, Collier County Court Chief, and Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano, of the State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case.
In 2019, the defendant attacked her roommate, using a 9-pound cast iron microphone stand to bludgeon the victim to death. Following the attack, the defendant left the scene and drove to her mother’s home, which was nearby. They then both returned to the scene of the crime and the defendant’s mother called 911.
The victim’s DNA was found on the base of the microphone stand. The defendant’s fingerprint was found just above the base of the stand and the defendant’s DNA was on the top of the stand.
During the trial, the Medical Examiner testified that the injuries the victim sustained were similar to injuries he sees in high impact car crashes.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime.
