Meth Dealer Sentenced to Prison

This morning, Ronnie Sherman Leatherwood was adjudicated guilty and sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender (HFO) to 7 years in prison, for selling drugs in Port Charlotte.

Assistant State Attorney Nolan Deming prosecuted the case.

In 2025, the defendant twice sold methamphetamine to an undercover narcotics detective, within 1,000 feet of an elementary school. In the first transaction, he sold 7.6 grams of meth and in the second sale, the defendant sold just under 14 grams of meth to the detective.

He was adjudicated guilty of two counts of Sale or Delivery of a Controlled Substance within 1,000 ft. of a School, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver, and two counts of Possession of Paraphernalia.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office investigated the cases.

The defendant did an open plea to the court. This is not a plea agreement. Defendants can give up their right to a jury trial and plea straight to the judge.
