In April 2022, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the defendant’s vehicle in Immokalee because they were speeding. The defendant did not stop and instead drove away at speeds over 100 mph. Deputies chased the suspect’s car and used stop sticks to successfully disable the vehicle. The defendant then jumped out of the car and carjacked a person in a nearby vehicle.

The defendant than fled in that vehicle, with the victim still inside, and drove into Lee County. At this point, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office also joined in the investigation. The pursuit continued and the vehicle the defendant was driving was stopped after stop sticks were deployed again, near Corkscrew Road and U.S. 41. The defendant then jumped out of the car and tried to get into two other vehicles. He was not successful and ran a short distance where deputies apprehended him.

The defendant had drugs on him when searched. Trafficking amounts of drugs were found in his car he was originally driving in Collier County.

Assistant State Attorney Sarah Woodward prosecuted the case.
