Grand Theft: 25 Years in Prison

A Bonita Springs woman was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing money from the air conditioning company she worked at as a bookkeeper. Denise Ann Clark Carroll, 55, entered a plea of no contest, pleading straight to the court on April 6th , to charges of Scheme to Defraud and First Degree Grand Theft. Defendants can choose to not have a jury trial and plea straight to the charges so the judge can sentence them.

The offenses occurred continuously from December 31, 2008 until April 6, 2012 in Naples. During that time she stole $370,765.51. Carroll worked at the company for 18 years. The embezzlement was discovered when a concerned employee notified the owner that Carroll was living well above her means. An examination of the company checking account and credit card revealed the extensive embezzlement of the company’s money. As part of her sentence Carroll must make full restitution to the company. Sentencing was Friday.

Assistant State Attorney Tino Cimato of our Economic Crime Unit handled the case.
