Child Death Review

The next Child Death Review meeting will be held on May 22, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Children’s Advocacy Center on Evans Avenue in Fort Myers. The Child Death Review Committee is mandated by the Department of Health in Tallahassee and is designed to analyze the details surrounding a child’s death in the past year and the steps that could be taken to prevent tragedy in the future. This involves accidental deaths as well as criminal deaths.

This meeting is open to the public. It is hosted by Special Victims Unit Chief Francine Donnorummo as the chair of the committee. The meeting gathers experts in the field of dealing with child deaths as well as works to generate community action plans.

“By bringing together the many different agencies that help children, we hope to prevent future child deaths from happening,” says Assistant State Attorney Donnorummo.

Other law enforcement agencies from throughout the 20th Judicial Circuit also attend as well as the Department of Health, women’s shelters, children advocacy centers, various hospitals, the Department of Education, Florida Department of Children and Families, the Medical Examiner’s Office, citizens and community leaders.
