Juan Manuel Reyes, 58, of Naples, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison for Trafficking in
Cocaine 28 grams or more and also for Trafficking by Possession of Amphetamine 28 grams or
more. He received the sentence for each charge, to be served concurrently. He was given credit
for time served, for one count each of; Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Giving a
False Name by Person Arrested or Detained, and Possession of Paraphernalia. Reyes was found
guilty following a trial in Lee County in December 2019.
In January of 2019 Reyes was arrested after a deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office
conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle for an obstructed tag. The deputy could smell marijuana as
he approached the vehicle and told Reyes a search would be conducted. Reyes then handed the
deputy a container of marijuana from the center console. During a brief search of the vehicle,
baggies of cocaine were found in a container in the same center console.
While being processed into the Lee County Jail, it was revealed that the defendant gave a false
name at the time of arrest. A second search of the vehicle was executed at the impound lot by the
Lee County Sheriff’s Office and more than 28 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine were
found hidden underneath the back seat.
