This afternoon, Bruce Edward Cahill, 33, of Port Charlotte, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced for ten counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Compiling Computer Pornography Involving a Minor. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and will be a Registered Sexual Offender.
In 2019, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, reported by Google Inc., that the defendant had stored images of child pornography on his Google account. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) joined the investigation.
On December 10, 2020, a search warrant was executed at the defendant’s home by members of the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and FDLE.
The defendant was home and admitted to looking at child pornography. Cahill was then arrested. A full forensic examination was done on his cellphone and more images of child pornography were found.
Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Garczewski prosecuted the case.
