Roger Antonio Polo De La Cruz was convicted of two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder following a three-day trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney Tyler Goldman and Assistant State Attorney Erin Hughes, Assistant Felony Chief, prosecuted the case.
The crime happened on March 15, 2025. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service at an apartment building in Fort Myers. Deputies discovered a woman there, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Another person, a man, had also been shot multiple times. He was able to run from the scene to his apartment in the same complex and get help.
The defendant, who also lived at the residence, had walked into the kitchen and shot the victims. Another resident of the home saw the defendant firing the gun and then saw him run out of the house and get into an SUV and drive away.
The defendant, who was not in a relationship with the female victim, was jealous that she was talking to the male victim.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 5, 2026.
