Today, Joseph Maxwell Griffin, 38, of Punta Gorda, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison for one count of Sexual Activity with a Child. He was also sentenced to 30 years of Sex Offender probation for a second count of Sexual Activity with a Child, to follow the prison sentence. Griffin was also designated a Sexual Predator and must register with the state.
In July 2020, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a sexual battery. The victim told a guardian that the defendant was touching her inappropriately. Deputies responded to the scene and began an investigation. Griffin admitted to the crimes and was arrested.
Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Garczewski prosecuted the case.
