Deputy and Bondsman Arrested

Hendry County Deputy Germain Garcia and Hendry County bondsman Antonio Martinez were each arrested on one count of felony perjury relating to a case they were involved with in 2017.

The case involved the bondsman detaining a person he believed committed a crime against the bondsman’s family member. The deputy then responded and took the person into custody. Both are accused of giving false statements under oath about what actually transpired based on witness testimony and other evidence.

A capias was issued by the State Attorney’s Office and both men turned themselves in at the Hendry County Jail. Both defendants are out on bond.

The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office has initiated termination proceedings for Garcia. Assistant State Attorneys Anthony Kunasek and Abe Thornburg are handling the case.
