Drug Trafficker Found Guilty as Charged

A sentencing date is scheduled for March 1, 2023, for defendant Jay Alexander, 44, after he was found guilty as charged, following a one-day trial in Hendry County. The defendant was found guilty of Trafficking in Amphetamine – 28 grams – 200 grams, Possession of a Place with Knowledge of Trafficking, Sale or Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of
Paraphernalia.

In September 2021, a search warrant was served at the LaBelle residence of the defendant by the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit after drugs and drug paraphernalia were seen in the home by a State Probation Officer.

During the search warrant, the defendant admitted the drugs in the home were his. There were four bags of methamphetamine found in total with a weight of 94.2 grams. Deputies also found Oxycodone pills, glass smoking devices with meth residue inside, and a glass tube with magnets on it to aid in the delivery and transportation of narcotics, which also had drugs inside.

Assistant State Attorney Kyle Bermingham and Assistant State Attorney Haylie Gutierrez prosecuted the case.
