Funeral Theft

Andrew Johnson was sentenced to 364 days in jail followed by 4 years of probation after being found guilty as charged of Grand Theft. Johnson, a former funeral home director in Fort Myers, stole jewelry that was taken off of the body of a deceased teenager instead of providing it to her family.

Following the two day trial, the jury deliberated for only 10 minutes before coming back with a guilty verdict. The state called 19 witnesses which included the airline employees who took custody of the deceased as she was being flown to Missouri from Florida for burial.

Assistant State Attorney Mike Colombo Jr. who prosecuted the case said “The victim’s family was extremely thankful for this resolution.”
