Guilty as Charged for Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death

Giselle Guzman has been convicted of Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death, following a four-day trial in Collier County.

Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano of the State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit and Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney James Stewart prosecuted the case.

The defendant was found guilty of hitting a bicyclist with her car and then leaving the scene. It happened in December 2023, in Collier County, on 41st Street Southwest, near 22nd Avenue.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Troopers responded to the scene and found a car part laying there, from the collision with the bike. The man who had been riding his bike, died from the extensive injuries suffered in the crash.

As the investigation was underway, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip, which they provided to FHP, leading to the identity of the defendant. When troopers went to the defendant’s home, her car was there, and the car part found at the scene, was missing from the car. The defendant’s vehicle also had windshield damage and what appeared to be further evidence linked to the victim, indicating she had hit a person.

It was discovered during the course of the investigation, that the defendant had been at an office Christmas party prior to the crash.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 20, 2024.
