Guilty as Charged of Vehicular Homicide

This afternoon, Yosbel Regalado Fernandez, 33, of Miami, was found guilty as charged of
Vehicular Homicide. The jury deliberated for approximately two hours following a three-day
trial in Fort Myers.

On June 27, 2018, Fernandez was driving a tractor-trailer on U.S. 41, when he ran a red light and
slammed into a car. The evidence shows the defendant accelerated through the intersection after
the light had already been red for 7 seconds. The car he hit was driven by a 60-year-old woman
from North Fort Myers, who was killed.

Assistant State Attorney Martin Stark and Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano, both with our
Traffic Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case. The Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County
Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 6.
