Guilty of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon

Juan Toro, 30, of Naples, was found guilty of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon following a two-day trial in Collier County.

On August 29, 2020, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home, in reference to a disturbance and someone with a gun. The defendant had been at a party and got into a verbal
argument with a woman, demanding she take off a sweatshirt he had loaned her. When she refused, he pushed her into a glass display and struck her in the head multiple times, with a firearm, while threatening to shoot her.

He fled before deputies arrived but was apprehended later with the help of the victim and another witness, who knew where the defendant could be located.

Assistant State Attorney Laura Mason prosecuted the case. Sentencing is scheduled for June 15th.
