Guilty of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer

Randall Leon Wright was found guilty of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. The jury returned the guilty verdict following a one-day trial in Lee County.

The crime happened on October 26, 2022. A deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was flagged down by a woman who said she wanted law enforcement to escort her home, as she had an argument with her boyfriend earlier and she wanted to be sure he was not there.

The deputy followed her home and stood outside while she entered. He then heard screaming and the woman shouting for help. He entered the home and found her behind a door with the defendant standing over her in a threatening manner.

The defendant then started a physical altercation with the deputy, grabbed a knife, and pushed the deputy out the front door. Back-up was called and the defendant then came out of the house holding the knife, refusing multiple commands to stop. He went into the back of the house and locked himself in a bathroom. Deputies removed him from the home and placed him under arrest.

Assistant State Attorney Ryan Pomponio prosecuted the case. Sentencing is scheduled for June 13, 2023.
