Guilty of Dealing in Stolen Property

Mark Burkart Carter was found guilty of one count of Dealing in Stolen Property following a
one-day trial in Lee County. He faces up to 30 years in prison as a Habitual Felony Offender.

The crime happened in November 2018. A woman was outside of her home drinking her
morning coffee around 7 a.m. Her lawnmower was sitting nearby in her carport. She went inside
her home and when she came back outside her lawnmower was gone.

She reported the theft and gave the serial number for the lawnmower to the Lee County Sheriff’s
Office. The lawnmower turned up at a local pawn shop. Carter sold it to them for $55.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 23rd. Assistant State Attorney Cameron Siggs prosecuted
the case.
