Guilty of Manslaughter

Today Ryan Doyon, 29, was found guilty of Manslaughter with a Weapon, a 1st degree Felony, and 4 counts of Discharging a Firearm in Public which are 1st degree Misdemeanors following a four day trial in Lee County.

In May 2017 neighbors witnessed the defendant chasing the victim down the street as he was running away from Doyon’s home. As Doyon was running after the victim, he fired over a dozen shots at him with a high powered assault rifle. The victim was shot twice and died from his injuries. The defendant claimed that he was acting in self-defense but further investigation from the Cape Coral Police Department found that it was malicious intent.

The first trial for Doyon resulted in a mistrial because the jury could not reach a verdict.
Doyon’s sentencing is set for August 26, 2019. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

Assistant State Attorneys Andreas Gardiner and Sara Miller handled the case.
