Stephen Lawrence, 62, of Port Charlotte, was found guilty as charged of Vehicular Homicide following a three day trial in Charlotte County. The jury took less than an hour to deliberate.
On February 1, 2017 Lawrence backed his truck into the path of the 42 year old victim who had been riding a dirt bike on a residential street. The victim had an impact with the truck and later died of his injuries. The crime was caught on video by the defendant’s home security cameras.
