Guilty Verdict in Stolen Currency Case

Shannon Elizabeth Jenkins, 47, of Naples, was found guilty as charged with Dealing in Stolen Property. The jury returned the guilty verdict following a two-day trial in Collier County.

The crime happened in July 2020, when a Naples resident was out of town. During that time, $2,500 in cash and 225,000 Iraqi Dinar, Iraqi currency, was stolen from a safe in his home. The foreign currency could only be exchanged at one local business for United States currency.

Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigated by going to the business and confirmed the currency had been exchanged, at a value of under $1,000. The defendant, Jenkins, was identified as the seller. Deputies then located and arrested the defendant.

Assistant State Attorney Brian Ashby prosecuted the case. Sentencing is scheduled for November 19th.
