Habitual Felony Offender Sentenced to Prison for Drug Charges

Shawn Edward Malsky, 52, of Punta Gorda, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for one count of
Sale or Delivery of a Controlled Substance as a Habitual Felony Offender and 15 years in prison
for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell. He received credit time served for
one count of Possession of Paraphernalia.

Malsky was found guilty by a jury in Charlotte County on April 6, 2021. The crimes occurred in
January 2020, when the defendant sold methadone pills to a confidential informant. The sale was
on video. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation.

Malsky had just completed a 16-year prison sentence, three months prior to his new arrest.

Assistant State Attorney Scott Patterson prosecuted the case.
