Joachin Charged with the Murder of Julia Curvo

The State Attorney’s Office has charged Rolbert Joachin with Second Degree Murder for the murder of 28-year-old Julia Curvo. The victim had been reported missing and her body was found less than a week later, in January 2026, near a parking lot in downtown Fort Myers. Her cause of death was strangulation.

The victim’s father, Mark Curvo, and her grandmother, Sandra Stephens, attended today’s press conference where the murder charge was announced. Her father wrote the following statement, that was read by State Attorney Amira Fox.

“Would everyone please do me and Julia the honor of bowing their heads for just a moment. Dear Lord, in this time of profound sorrow and unrelenting grief, we come before You with truly broken hearts. We lift up my beloved daughter Julia Grace Curvo to Your loving care. Our hope is that she is now warm and safe in the arms of our Lord, at peace in Your eternal light, looking down upon us all with eternal love as she did in life. She deserves justice, Lord. Grant strength and comfort to every soul who mourns her, and guide those who seek truth and accountability. I pray to you Lord and ask that goodness and mercy follow Julia all the days of her life and that she be allowed to dwell in the house of the Lord with you, forever. Amen.”

“I want to begin by thanking the Fort Myers Police Department, specifically the Detective Bureau and more specifically Detective Daniel, as well as Chief Jason Fields and the entire State Attorney’s Office. Thank you for all of your tireless work investigating, gathering evidence, and charging Rolbert Joachin with the murder of my daughter, Julia Grace Curvo. Your dedication and persistence have brought us to this point in the pursuit of justice, and we are deeply grateful.”

“Though our focus is on the prosecution, and seeking justice, our thoughts always remain with the victim’s family. These are not just cases, but life changing moments, for all those who are forced to face incredible heartbreak following a horrendous act of violence,” said State Attorney Fox.

“These investigations can be extremely complex. The Fort Myers Police Department gathered and followed leads, questioned witnesses, collected evidence and sent it for testing. We appreciate the great partnership with Fort Myers Police Chief Fields and his team on all of our cases. I also want to thank the witnesses who came forward and Crime Stoppers for providing a way for witnesses to provide tips,” said State Attorney Fox.

Assistant State Attorneys Sara Miller and Hamid Hunter, of the State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit, are prosecuting the case.
