Melissa Dymond-Demetrowitz was sentenced to life in prison for First Degree Murder with a Firearm, 30 years in prison for Conspiracy to Commit Murder and 5 years in prison for Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence.
The defendant was involved in a murder in September 2022. A man was killed in Charlotte County, and his body was dumped and hidden in a wooded area in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorneys Caitlin Sorenson, Garrick Soja, and Jennifer Garczewski prosecuted the case.
The defendant was indicted by a Charlotte County Grand Jury in 2023. In April, the defendant pled guilty to all three counts, and a non-jury penalty phase trial took place in May.
A co-defendant in the case is awaiting trial.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was the main investigating agency on this case. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Punta Gorda Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Desoto County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
