Man Found in Bedroom Sentenced to Prison

Today David Reeves Jr., 43, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for Burglary of a Dwelling, False Imprisonment, Petit Theft and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. He was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender.

In December 2017 a teenager was sleeping in her bed in her Charlotte County home when she woke up because she heard a rustling sound at the foot of her bed. She saw the shadow of a man standing there in the dark. He told her his name was “Chaos.” That man was the defendant, Reeves, and he was wearing the victim’s pink Nike running shorts that he got out of her dresser.

The teenager tried to get away and get out of her room but he grabbed her arm and kept her from leaving. The girl’s dogs were outside of her bedroom door and were whimpering which woke up the girl’s father and alerted him that something was wrong in her bedroom.

When her father opened the bedroom door he saw his daughter curled up on her bed looking scared and Reeves nearby on the floor, now attempting to crawl under the bed to hide. Her father ran to get a gun and Reeves ran away out of the front door of the house. He was later apprehended by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant State Attorney Caitlin Sorenson handled the case.
