Robert Eugene Reames, of Englewood, was sentenced to the maximum of 5 years in prison this afternoon, immediately after being convicted of Grand Theft Auto and Trespassing in a Structure. The jury returned the verdict following a two-day trial in Charlotte County.
Assistant State Attorney Kyle Rozanski prosecuted the case.
On August 11, 2024, the defendant was arrested by a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Deputy on two out of county warrants. He was in a transit van when he was apprehended, that turned out to be stolen.
Deputies went to the address that the van was registered to and contacted the homeowners. They were out of state and did not give anyone permission to use the van. Deputies then discovered that the defendant had moved some of his belongings into the house and had been trespassing.
The defendant has other pending burglary cases in Charlotte County.
